Abstract

The state of Santa Catarina (SC) has vegetation cover in the Atlantic Ocean, of high structural diversity and high humidity throughout the year, encompassing formations of dense, submountain, mixed shade vegetation and marine dynamic environments. Coastal islands highlight the current ecological sensitivity of geographical isolation and resource limitation, with processes of colonization,
extinction and founder effect. Assim, the present study aims to characterize the avifauna of Ilha dos Remedios, in the municipality of Barra do Sul (26º27.325’S; 48º36.714’ W), on the northern coast of SC, with a total area of 108,914 km.Monthly observations were conducted from April 2024 to May 2025. Species identification was based on the works of Sigrist (2015) and Voitina (2017). The total sampling effort was 48 hours, being sampled 56 species of 52 genera, 31 families and 15 orders. All species shown present distribution records for SC. The manifold curve is still ascending. The richness of birds recorded in the study was relatively low and the composition of the avian fauna was predominantly associated with aquatic, marine-coastal and generalist species, while groups with higher ecological requirements showed low representativeness.
